Safety Reminders

The warming weather encourages all of us to spend more time outside.  It can also lead to an increase in crime.  The potential for serious injury should not be ignored.

The streets are light longer and we are all outside more than before.  Multiple activities grab our attention and make us easy targets for criminals.

Important points to remember:

  • If you are walking alone on a residential street after dark - walk in the middle of the street.
  • Call the police whenever you see someone or something that doesn't seem right.  Don't worry about being an alarmist.  Let the police make the decision.
  • Most contractors leave around 3:30PM.  If there is a car in your alley that you don't recognize, call the police.
  • Don't listen to your I-Pod while alone on the street.
  • Do not try to fight someone off.  Give them your purse, wallet, whatever is demanded.
  • Call  911.  Do not hesitate to call when you are suspicious or feel threatened - in any way.

Be aware of your surroundings.  Anyone can be become a victim.  Criminals are looking for people who are preoccupied and not aware of their surroundings, especially on a quiet street.

Be alert.  Be safe.
