Picnic Works™ and Chartwells Higher Education Step Up Efforts to Revolutionize Campus Dining Experiences
Texas A&M and the University of Chicago Food Automation Pilot Project Creates Labor and Product Savings to Drive Innovative Deal Across Multiple College Campuses
SEATTLE, June 14, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Picnic Works, Seattle, an innovator of food automation technology, today announces an expanded university partnership with leading contract food service management company Chartwells Higher Education. Following a successful pilot program in Texas A&M and the University of ChicagoChartwells continues to revolutionize the dining experience on campus, with Picnic’s state-of-the-art kitchen equipment.
“Our team realized an unexpected benefit during the pilot,” says Christopher Burr, Vice President of Digital Strategy for Chartwells Higher Education. “Because of the speed with which we have been able to produce pizzas, we have reduced waste at the end of the day by moving to a ‘just in time’ production model.
The efficiencies achieved through the pilot program lead Chartwells to roll out the Picnic Pizza Station to other campuses across the United States. Beginning at the start of the upcoming school year, the Picnic Pizza Station will be implemented on five initial college campuses to streamline restaurant operations and promote prompt service and consistent food quality for students and guests. The top five universities will include Texas A&Mthe University of ChicagoMissouri State University, Carroll University and Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis.
“The success we have seen in Texas and Chicago proves that great things are inevitable when two innovative organizations work together,” says Clayton wood, CEO of Picnic. “Picnic is delighted to continue to partner with Chartwells to improve the business of university kitchens across the country. We’re also exceeding restaurant expectations, with 80% of A&M students surveyed saying they believe robotic technology helps make tastier, more consistent pizzas.
The Picnic Pizza Station gives kitchens an immediate return on investment through automation, helping restaurants reduce labor by 66%. The station also helps reduce food waste to around 2%, a significant reduction from the 10% average that most kitchens experience today.
The Picnic Pizza Station will next be on display at Chartwells 2022 Joy Fest, June 23-24in Chicago, Ill. and the National College and University Foodservice Conference, July 13-16in Spokane, Washington.
